Dimmable — what does this mean in practice?

This lamp is designed to work with dimmers — you can adjust the light level steplessly between minimum and maximum brightness. Important considerations:

• An LED-compatible dimmer circuit is required — old halogen dimmers may not work reliably with this lamp
• Dimming can cause minor flickering or jitter at low power settings — this is a common phenomenon in LED dimming
• The minimum power limit is typically about 10–15% — below this, the lamp may turn off completely
• Check compatibility — Sylvania maintains a list of approved dimmers; contact our customer service if you are unsure

Superia MR16 DIM series — when to choose 4.3W vs 5W vs 6.1W?

Sylvania offers three power ratings in the Superia MR16 DIM series:

• This 4.3W DIM (345/380 lm): replaces 35–40W halogen — soft ambient light, general household lighting, the most affordable dimmable Superia MR16
• 5W DIM (460/480 lm): replaces 40W halogen — general lighting, ambient lighting
• 6.1W DIM (621 lm): replaces 50W halogen — intense spotlight, retail displays

Measure the wattage of your old halogen lamp — use that to choose the correct model. If the old lamp was 35W or smaller, choose this 4.3W model.

Typical applications — dimmable soft light

• Restaurants and cafes — dimmed ambient lighting during evening hours
• Households — adjusting lighting in living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms
• Hotels — ambient lighting in rooms and lobbies
• Home theaters — light levels during movies and entertainment
• Chandeliers and multi-lamp fixtures — the combined power of several 4.3W lamps is sufficient for general lighting

4 color temperature variants — for all purposes

• 2700K (extra warm, incandescent-like): households, restaurants, hotels, vintage fixtures
• 3000K (warm white): the most common for ambient lighting
• 4000K (natural white): offices, meeting rooms, shops
• 6500K (daylight): museums, gallery staff rooms, areas requiring precise work

MR16 size with 44 mm diameter

This lamp is a compact MR16 version — slightly smaller (44 mm) than standard MR16 (51 mm), but retains MR16 compatibility with its GU5.3 base. Fits both standard MR16 holders and slightly smaller apertures.

Requires a 12V transformer

This is a 12V low-voltage lamp that requires a 12V transformer to operate. Works with both magnetic and electronic transformers, but compatibility with electronic transformers depends on the specific model. The most common compatible brands are Helvar, Tridonic, Osram, Ledvance, and Vossloh-Schwabe.

Transformer and dimmer — both must be LED-compatible

In a dimmable system, both components must be LED-compatible:

• Transformer: 12V LED-compatible (magnetic or electronic)
• Dimmer: LED-compatible — old halogen dimmers may not work

Check the transformer wattage

The transformer's wattage must correspond to the lamp. For one 4.3W lamp, the transformer should be at least about 5W (reserve a small margin). For multiple lamps:

• 5 lamps = 21.5W → transformer at least 25W
• 10 lamps = 43W → transformer at least 50W
• 20 lamps = 86W → transformer at least 100W

Glass body — premium quality

The all-glass body produces a more uniform light distribution than plastic, does not yellow over time, and provides a halogen-like appearance — fits seamlessly into traditional fixtures.

Replaces 35–40W GU5.3 halogen — 88% energy savings

This 4.3W LED produces the same light output (345–380 lm) as a traditional 35–40W GU5.3 halogen. Energy savings are approximately 88%, and the service life is:

• 35–40W GU5.3 halogen: 2,000–4,000 h
• This Sylvania Superia DIM: 25,000 h — 6–12 times longer

Flood-class spotlight, suitable for general lighting, ambient lighting, and accent lighting.

Installation checklist

1. Check that the fixture has a GU5.3 base (not GU4 or GU10)
2. Check that a 12V transformer (magnetic or electronic) is in use
3. Check that the transformer power is sufficient for the total power of the lamps
4. Check that the dimmer is LED-compatible (if in use)
5. Check that the fixture dimensions (44 mm diameter, 50 mm length) fit
6. Turn off the power before installation — do not touch the lamp glass with your fingers
7. Install the lamp and turn on the power
8. Test the dimming function at different levels — check that the lamp does not flicker annoyingly
