LED downlights – recessed lighting for low ceilings

A downlight is a recessed light fixture that is installed directly into the ceiling, leaving only a thin frame visible on the surface. The end result is clean, modern and glare-free lighting – a popular choice for both single-family home renovations and new construction.

Models suitable for low ceilings are available in our warehouse as thin as 23 mm (Osram Downlight Slim), which allows installation in structures where there is no space for a traditional luminaire.

The IP class determines the installation location. IP20 is sufficient for dry rooms such as the living room or bedroom. A minimum of IP44 is required for bathrooms and saunas – moisture-proof models can be found in our selection in both the Airam Compact Fix IP65 and Thorgeon Slim Downlight IP44 series. IP65 is also suitable near the shower or on an outdoor terrace.

Dimmability and color temperature. The Thorgeon Slim Downlight series supports both dimming and CCT color temperature control (3000–6500 K) from the same luminaire – one model replaces multiple color temperature options. The Airam Flat R Duo allows 3000/4000 K selection via a switch.

WiFi smart downlights without a separate hub: Osram SMART+ Wifi Orbis Downlight Tunable White (3000–6500 K) and SMART+ Wifi Spotlight RGB+TW work directly with your home WiFi network – controlled with the LEDVANCE SMART+ app or by voice control via Alexa and Google Assistant.

How do I choose the right downlight?

First, check the installation depth of the ceiling structure: less than 30 mm requires a slim model. Second, check the space – a bathroom requires at least IP44. Third, consider control: if you want to dim or adjust the color temperature, choose a CCT+DIM model or a WiFi smart light. Fourth, calculate the installation hole from the dimensions on the product card – the most common diameter is 68–88 mm.
