The Hide-a-lite LED downlight is a directional 12 V downlight suitable for a junction box or a 57–60 mm mounting hole. Thanks to quick connectors, you can use existing wires, transformers, and dimmers — replacing an old halogen light is quick. The luminaire is dimmable with a standard dimmer with AC supply, and IP44 protection allows installation in humid indoor spaces.

12 V AC/DC connection. Dimmable only with AC supply. IP44. Quick connectors (0.2–1.5 mm²) and spring clamp installation. Directional beam — adjust after installation.

Compatibility and installation

Directional — aim the beam precisely

The luminaire body of this model is directional — you can tilt and turn the light beam towards the desired object after installation. This makes the downlight an excellent spot light for illuminating artworks, shelves, or work surfaces, not just for general lighting.

Installation in a junction box or a 57–60 mm hole

The luminaire can be installed in two ways:

  • Junction box installation: fits directly into a standard junction box — a neat solution for new constructions
  • 57–60 mm hole: using clamping springs — suitable for holes left by old halogen lights in renovation projects

Outer diameter approximately 58–62 mm.

12 V AC/DC — transformer required

The luminaire operates on 12 V DC or AC voltage. NOT suitable for direct 230 V mains voltage — a 12 V transformer is always required in between. Explore our selection in the transformers category.

Dimmable only with AC supply

Dimming only works when the luminaire is connected to an AC voltage. Check that the dimmer is designed for LED loads and that it is compatible with the transformer. A list of recommended dimmers and transformers can be found on Hide-a-lite's website.

IP44 — also for more humid spaces

IP44 protection is suitable for bathrooms (protection zone 2 and beyond), toilets, utility rooms, and drier parts of saunas. Always check regulations regarding protection zones for bathroom installations.

Sister model — two color temperature options

Hide-a-lite also offers a more powerful 4.3 W model with selectable color temperatures of 3000 K or 4000 K. This 3.6 W model is only available in 3000 K (warm white) version.

Installation checklist

  1. Turn off the power at the main switch
  2. Select installation method: junction box or 57–60 mm hole
  3. Connect the luminaire to existing wiring with quick connectors
  4. Place the luminaire in position — in a junction box or with clamping springs into the hole
  5. Turn on the power and test, including dimming
  6. Adjust the beam direction as desired
Power: 3.6W

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

What does "directional" mean in a downlight?

A adjustable downlight means that the luminaire's body allows the beam to be tilted and turned after installation. Unlike a regular fixed downlight, you can direct the light to a desired object — for example, a piece of art, a shelf, a worktop, or an interior detail.

This practically makes the luminaire a spotlight instead of a general luminaire. Adjustability is useful when downlights are used as accent lighting, not just as general lighting for a space.

Can the luminaire be installed in an appliance box?

Yes. This Hide-a-lite downlight is designed to fit a standard junction box. Installation options:

  • Junction box installation: fits directly onto the junction box cover — a neat and robust solution for new builds or full renovations
  • 57–60 mm opening with spring clips: fits into holes left by old halogen luminaires — for renovation projects

Junction box installation is recommended for new installations as it provides a more secure attachment and a neater finish.

What's the difference between this and the 4.3W model?

Hide-a-lite offers two similar 12V downlights:

  • This 3.6 W model: 360 lm, only 3000 K warm white, narrower (Ø 58–62 mm), adjustable, fits into a junction box
  • 4.3 W model: 300/365 lm, two color temperature options (3000 K or 4000 K), Ø 58–63 mm

This 3.6 W model is well suited for accent lighting and spot lighting with a warm tone. If you need neutral light, choose the 4000 K version of the 4.3 W model.

Why is the light fixture a custom order and the delivery time 1–2 weeks?

Hide-a-lite is a premium brand manufactured in the Nordic countries, and its products are not continuously stocked in large quantities in Finland. We order the luminaires directly from the importer or manufacturer, which typically takes 1–2 weeks.

If you need the luminaires sooner, you can inquire about availability from customer service — sometimes small quantities are immediately in stock. For larger projects, it's advisable to order all luminaires at once and schedule the installation to coincide with the delivery time.
