Low-voltage oven lamp with G4 base — suitable for modern ovens with an integrated 230 V → 12 V transformer. With 20 W halogen technology, it provides 240 lm of warm 2700 K light and withstands the high 300 °C temperature of the oven. The compact Ø 8 × 30 mm size allows the lamp to fit even into small oven light fixtures.

12 V low voltage — requires an integrated oven transformer. G4 base (two-pin, 4 mm). Heat resistance 300 °C. For oven light use only.

Compatibility and installation

12 V vs 230 V oven lamp

There are two types of oven lamps:

  • 12 V (this one): the oven has an integrated transformer that converts 230 V → 12 V. GY6.35 or G4 base. More common in newer ovens.
  • 230 V: connects directly to the oven's power supply, E14 or E27 base. More common in older ovens — e.g., Osram oven lamp E14 15W.

Check the required model in your oven's user manual or on the old lamp.

G4 vs GY6.35

Both are two-pin bases, but of different sizes:

  • G4 (this one): pin spacing 4 mm — small
  • GY6.35: pin spacing 6.35 mm — medium

The lamps are NOT interchangeable. Check the fixture carefully.

Heat resistance 300 °C

Standard incandescent bulbs cannot withstand the heat of an oven. Oven lamps are built with special materials that can withstand a constant 300 °C temperature.

Installation checklist

  1. Check the oven manual for the required lamp base and power requirements
  2. Allow the oven to cool down completely before changing
  3. Disconnect the oven from the power supply
  4. Remove the oven light cover glass
  5. Do not touch the halogen glass with bare hands — use a clean cloth or gloves
  6. Remove the old lamp (by pulling, not twisting — G4 is two-pin)
  7. Install the new lamp — insert the two pins into the slots
  8. Attach the cover securely
  9. Reconnect the oven and test

How do I know if my oven has a 12V or a 230V bulb?

The easiest way: remove the old bulb and check the base:

  • Small 2-pin (G4): 12 V — use this bulb
  • Medium 2-pin (GY6.35): 12 V — use a GY6.35 bulb
  • Screw base (E14 or E27): 230 V — use an E14 or E27 oven bulb

Alternatively, check your oven's user manual. Sometimes the required information can also be found behind the oven light cover.

Never replace a 230 V bulb with a 12 V bulb or vice versa — the wrong voltage will destroy the bulb immediately or cause a fire hazard.

Why shouldn't you touch a G4 halogen bulb with your bare hands?

The glass of a G4 halogen bulb becomes extremely hot during use. If finger grease gets onto the glass surface during installation, it will burn on and may:

  • Weaken the glass — localized heating can cause the glass to crack
  • Shorten the service life — uneven heating puts stress on the filament

Use a clean cloth or gloves when installing. If you get fingerprints on the glass, wipe it carefully with alcohol before installation. This applies to all halogen bulbs, not just oven bulbs.

How long does a 12V oven lamp last?

The nominal service life of a halogen oven lamp is typically 2,000 hours. Depending on the oven's usage rate:

  • Typical household (less than 1 hour/day): 5–6 years
  • Frequent use (2–3 hours/day): 2–3 years
  • Professional use (continuous): less than a year

We recommend keeping a spare lamp at home so that it can be replaced as soon as the light stops working. The oven will technically function without the light, but it is inconvenient to use.

Can an LED alternative be used in an oven?

LED oven lamps are available in limited numbers, but most cannot withstand the constant 300 °C temperature of an oven. LED technology suffers at high temperatures — the electronics get damaged and the service life is shortened dramatically.

Special LED oven lamps that can withstand oven temperatures are available on the market, but the price is significantly higher than that of halogen, the light output is not necessarily better, and long-term reliability in an oven is limited.

Halogen oven lamps remain the standard solution for oven lighting for the time being. This is one of the few applications where halogen is still the most sensible choice.
