The Osram oven lamp is an incandescent bulb designed for special use, capable of withstanding the high temperatures of an oven. 230 V mains voltage, E14 small Edison screw base, and 15 W power — suitable for oven luminaires where the bulb must withstand a continuous temperature of 300 °C. The clear bulb provides a bright view of the oven's interior.

Compatibility and installation

E14 vs E27 oven lamp

Oven luminaires generally use either an E14 or E27 base:

  • E14 (this one): small Edison screw, 14 mm diameter. Common in more modern ovens.
  • E27: large Edison screw, 27 mm diameter. More common in older models.

Check your oven's user manual or the old bulb to determine the required base size. The bulbs are NOT interchangeable — an E14 will not fit an E27 base and vice versa.

Heat resistance 300 °C

Standard incandescent bulbs are designed for operating temperatures of approximately 100–150 °C and will be damaged inside an oven. Oven bulbs are constructed with special materials that can withstand a continuous temperature of 300 °C. Never use a standard bulb in an oven — this may cause the bulb to melt, shatter, or create a fire hazard.

Low voltage or 230 V?

There are two types of oven lamps:

  • 230 V (this one): connects directly to the oven's power supply, E14 or E27 base
  • 12 V: requires a transformer, GY6.35 or G4 base — e.g., 12V G4 oven lamp

Check your oven's manual for the required model.

Service life — typical for an incandescent bulb

The service life of an incandescent bulb is typically 1000–2000 hours. When used inside an oven, this corresponds to several years of use, as the oven light is only on during operation — a typical household oven is used for less than an hour per day. We recommend keeping a spare bulb at home so that it can be replaced as soon as the light stops working.

Installation checklist

  1. Check the oven manual for the bulb base and power requirements (E14, max 15 W or equivalent)
  2. Let the oven cool down completely before changing the bulb
  3. Disconnect the oven from the power supply (for safety reasons)
  4. Remove the oven light cover (usually unscrews)
  5. Unscrew the old bulb and install the new one
  6. Securely reattach the cover
  7. Reconnect the oven to the power supply and test the light

Why does an oven light bulb have special heat resistance?

Standard incandescent light bulbs are designed for an ambient temperature of approximately 100–150 °C. Inside an oven, the temperature can rise above 250 °C, which melts the bulb's glass or base, breaks the filament due to uneven heating, and can create a fire hazard if the glass fuses to a hot surface.

Oven bulbs are constructed from special materials (e.g., quartz or reinforced glass) that can withstand a constant temperature of 300 °C and sudden temperature changes. This is essential for the safe operation of the oven.

Never replace an oven bulb with a standard incandescent bulb — it is a safety risk and will likely result in immediate breakage.

What is the difference between an E14 and an E27 oven lamp?

Both are screw bases, but of different sizes:

  • E14 (this one): base with a 14 mm diameter — small Edison screw
  • E27: base with a 27 mm diameter — large Edison screw

In terms of electrical specifications, size, and thread dimensions, the lamps are different and not interchangeable. Applications:

  • E14 oven lamp: common in more modern ovens (post-2000s)
  • E27 oven lamp: common in older ovens

Please check your oven's user manual for the required base size before purchasing. Usually, you can also determine the correct type by looking at the base of the old lamp.

Can a 15W oven lamp be sufficient for a large oven?

15 W is a power rating commonly used by Osram for oven lamps, and it is optimized for lighting a standard household oven. Inside the oven, you only need enough light to see the contents — the amount of light is intentionally limited because:

  • Light that is too bright causes glare when you open the oven door
  • Higher power produces more heat — oven lamps are designed for low power
  • 15–25 W is the industry standard — the oven volume and door window size are designed for this

If you want more light, use a flashlight while the oven door is open — do not attempt to install a more powerful bulb.

Is there an E14 LED oven lamp available?

LED oven lamps are available in limited quantities, but most cannot withstand a constant temperature of 300 °C like incandescent bulbs. LED technology suffers at high temperatures—the electronics are damaged and the service life is shortened dramatically.

Special LED oven lamps that can withstand oven temperatures are on the market, but the price is significantly higher than that of an incandescent bulb, the luminous efficacy is not necessarily better than that of an Osram incandescent bulb (inherently low-power 15 W), and long-term reliability in an oven environment is limited.

Incandescent oven lamps remain the standard solution for oven lighting for the time being.
