TRUE-LIGHT T5 FullSpectrum is a premium daylight fluorescent tube that almost identically mimics the full spectrum of natural daylight. Excellent color rendering (Ra 96 / CRI 96, class 1A) and a biologically activating effect make it a special choice for professional use where color accuracy and natural lighting are essential — art studios, museums, gallery workspaces, photography workshops, jewelers, clothing stores, as well as offices and healthcare facilities where the quality of natural light affects well-being.

T5 G5 base, HO model (High Output). Requires an electronic ballast (HF / EVG). Contains mercury.

✓ Highest possible color rendering — CRI 96

This fluorescent tube belongs to color rendering class 1A (Ra 96), which is the best possible level in the industry for fluorescent tubes. Premium LEDs typically reach CRI 80–95, so this is a rare alternative for spaces where color accuracy is essential.

Compatibility and installation

What is full-spectrum lighting?

Ordinary fluorescent tubes produce light with a narrow spectrum — only certain wavelengths in the visible light range. TRUE-LIGHT FullSpectrum tubes produce a wider and more even spectrum, which mimics the entire wavelength range of natural daylight. In practice, this means:

  • Accurate color rendering: colors appear as in natural daylight
  • Biological effect: supports melatonin production and circadian rhythm
  • Less eye strain: natural spectrum strains the eyes less than artificial light
  • Better contrast perception: important for precision work

Typical applications

  • Art studios and gallery workspaces — natural color rendering of artworks
  • Museums and exhibition spaces — authentic lighting for artworks and artifacts
  • Photography workshops and studios — color accuracy in photography
  • Jewelers and jewelry stores — natural shine and color tones of jewelry
  • Clothing stores — realistic color of fabrics and clothes
  • Tattoo studios and beauty salons — accurate perception of skin color
  • Healthcare and nursing homes — supporting circadian rhythm
  • Offices — reducing fatigue, improving alertness
  • Northern latitudes in winter — aid for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

T5 G5 HO base

This is a T5 HO (High Output) model, with a G5 base (double-ended, 5 mm pin spacing). Not to be confused with standard T5 (used in longer, thinner luminaires) or T8 G13 fluorescent tubes. The length of 1149 mm corresponds to the standard length of a 54W T5 HO fluorescent tube.

Requires an electronic ballast (HF / EVG)

T5 HO fluorescent tubes only work with electronic high-frequency ballasts (HF / EVG / ECG). Magnetic chokes are not compatible. Check that the luminaire has an electronic ballast before ordering.

Compatible ballasts can be found, if needed, in the Electrical supplies → Ballasts/Chokes category.

Contains mercury — recycling is important

Like all fluorescent tubes, this one contains a small amount of mercury. At the end of its life, the fluorescent tube must be recycled according to the WEEE directive:

  • Do not dispose of the fluorescent tube with general waste
  • Take the used tube to the nearest WEEE collection point
  • Do not break the fluorescent tube during transport — mercury vapor is harmful to health

EU EcoDesign restrictions

The EU EcoDesign directive restricts the sale of T5 fluorescent tubes for new systems. However, for special applications (museums, photography studios, gallery workspaces), full-spectrum fluorescent tubes can still be purchased for the maintenance of existing systems, as there is no LED alternative of comparable quality.

LED alternative — limited selection

Unlike ordinary T5 fluorescent tubes, full-spectrum daylight LEDs are a rare specialty product group. Most T5 LED tubes only reach CRI 80–89, not CRI 96. If you want an LED alternative to this product, we recommend contacting our customer service — we will assess the situation and find the best option for your intended use.

Installation checklist

  1. Check that the luminaire has a T5 G5 base and is HO compatible
  2. Check that the luminaire has an electronic HF/EVG ballast (not a magnetic choke)
  3. Check that the lamp length of 1149 mm fits the luminaire
  4. Install with power off — twist the lamp into place
  5. Turn on the power — the fluorescent tube reaches full power in about 1–2 minutes
  6. At the end of its life, recycle according to the WEEE directive

What is a Full Spectrum Daylight Fluorescent Tube?

A full-spectrum daylight fluorescent tube produces a wider and more even light spectrum than a standard fluorescent tube — mimicking the entire wavelength range of natural daylight. Important differences compared to a standard fluorescent tube:

  • Color rendering: CRI 96 vs CRI 80–89 (standard) — colors appear as in natural daylight
  • Biological effect: supports circadian rhythm, melatonin production, and alertness
  • Visual comfort: less strain on the eyes than artificial light
  • Perception of contrasts: better for precision work, reading, and detailed tasks

This makes FullSpectrum fluorescent tubes particularly suitable for spaces where the quality of natural light is important — art studios, museums, photography workshops, offices, and healthcare facilities.

Can this lamp be used for SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) treatment?

This lamp offers natural daylight-like illumination and can support well-being in northern latitudes, especially during winter. However, actual SAD treatment requires brighter light than conventional lighting:

  • SAD treatment typically uses 10,000 lux bright light lamps installed close (30–50 cm from the eyes) for 20–30 minute sessions.
  • This fluorescent tube produces 3,400 lumens — excellent for general lighting, but it does not replace a clinical SAD therapy device.
  • In general lighting, this tube supports overall well-being, especially with long-term exposure during office or indoor work.

If you have been diagnosed with SAD symptoms, discuss bright light therapy with your doctor. This product is a better choice for modernizing general indoor lighting with full spectrum light.

What is the difference between a CRI 96 fluorescent tube and regular LED tubes?

CRI (Color Rendering Index) measures how accurately light reproduces natural colors — 100 is perfect (natural light). Typical CRI values for different lamp types:

  • TRUE-LIGHT FullSpectrum (this product): CRI 96 — Class 1A, industry-best for fluorescent tubes
  • Premium LEDs (e.g., Ledvance Performance): CRI 80–95
  • Standard T5/T8 LED tubes: CRI 80–89
  • Standard fluorescent tubes: CRI 40–59
  • Halogen: CRI 100 (perfect, but only in small spotlights)

The difference between CRI 96 and CRI 80 is significant in professional use — in artworks, jewelry, clothing, and paints, colors appear clearly more natural. CRI 80 is sufficient for most general lighting, but precision work (museums, gallery workspaces, photography, jewelry stores) requires a CRI 90+ level.

Is there an LED alternative for a full-spectrum fluorescent tube?

Yes, but the selection is very limited. Most T5 LED tubes achieve a CRI of 80–89, not CRI 96. Full-spectrum LED options are:

  • Specialized product category — made by only a few manufacturers
  • Price typically higher than fluorescent counterparts
  • Limited availability in the Finnish market

This is a rare situation where keeping a fluorescent tube is justified even from a long-term perspective — for special purposes (museums, art studios, photography spaces), there may not be an LED alternative of comparable quality available. If you are interested in an LED option, please contact our customer service — we will assess the situation according to your use case.
