Compatibility and installation
GU10 is direct 230V — no transformer needed
The GU10 base is a bayonet-type quick lock that connects directly to mains voltage. If your existing luminaire uses GU10, replacement is just one click away — no wiring changes, no transformer, no electrician.
Do not confuse with MR16 (GU5.3)
GU10 and MR16 (GU5.3) look similar from the front, but are completely different products. MR16 is a 12V pin base that requires a transformer and does not fit into a GU10 socket. Check the old bulb:
- GU10: two round pins with knobs at the ends — twist lock
- MR16/GU5.3: two straight, thin pins — pushed directly into the base
This bulb only fits a GU10 base. If you have an MR16 base, browse the GU5.3 LED spotlight selection.
Dimming
This Retro model is not dimmable. Do not use with a dimmer, as the bulb will flicker, buzz, or turn off completely. If you want a dimmable GU10 LED bulb, contact our customer service — we will supply the suitable DIM model.
Choosing a color temperature — practical guide
- 2700K (very warm): yellowish light like an incandescent bulb. Living room, bedroom, restaurant, mood lighting. Most popular in households.
- 3000K (warm): slightly more neutral but still warm. Hallways, accent lighting in the living room.
- 4000K (neutral): balanced, neither warm nor cold. Kitchen, bathroom, office, workspaces.
- 6500K (daylight): bright, bluish. Store, exhibition space, precision work — usually not for the home.
If you are replacing an incandescent bulb or halogen, choose 2700K — it most closely matches the old feel. In a modern kitchen or study, 4000K is a common choice.
Installation checklist
- Turn off the luminaire at the main switch and let the old bulb cool down.
- Turn the old bulb about a quarter turn counterclockwise and pull it out.
- Push the new bulb into the base and turn it clockwise to the locked position.
- Turn the power on and ensure that the bulb lights up evenly.
