The Airam Smarthome is a smart door and window sensor that notifies your phone whenever a monitored door or window is opened. The sensor connects to the Airam Smarthome app, where you can also create rules — for example, to turn on lights or activate a siren when a door opens. Operates on 2x AAA batteries (included) and for indoor use only.

For indoor use only. Operating temperature −10 … +50 °C. Requires the Airam Smarthome app (Android or iOS). 2x AAA batteries included.

Compatibility and Use

How the sensor works

The sensor consists of two parts: a main unit, which is attached to the door frame (or window frame), and a counterpart, which is attached to the door itself (or window). When the door is closed, the parts are close to each other. When the door is opened, the parts separate and the sensor immediately sends a notification to the Airam Smarthome app.

Rules for other Smarthome devices

The sensor can be paired with other Airam Smarthome products, such as a siren or smart lights. In the app, you can create rules:

  • Door open → lights turn on
  • Door open at night → siren starts alarming
  • Window open for more than 30 minutes → notification to phone as a reminder

This makes a simple sensor a versatile security and home automation tool.

History function and battery monitoring

The app shows a history of when the sensor's counterparts have been separated (door open) and when together (door closed). In addition, the app shows the battery level — you will be notified when the batteries need to be changed.

Required batteries

The sensor operates on 2x AAA alkaline batteries, which are included in the delivery. When the batteries need to be changed, you can purchase them separately — e.g. Procell Intense AAA batteries (pack of 10).

For indoor use only

The sensor is designed for indoor use (operating temperature −10 … +50 °C). Installation on external doors from the inside is the recommended installation location, not the exterior surface. When installing on windows, ensure that the sensor is installed in a dry place and is not exposed to moisture.

Installation checklist

  1. Download the Airam Smarthome app (App Store or Google Play)
  2. Activate the sensor by inserting the batteries
  3. Add the sensor to the app according to the instructions
  4. Attach the main unit to the frame and the counterpart to the door (adhesive fastening or screws)
  5. Ensure that the parts are close to each other when the door is closed
  6. Set the desired rules in the app

How is the Airam SmartHome door sensor installed?

Installation is simple and can be done without an electrician:

  1. Download the Airam Smarthome app to your phone (Android or iOS)
  2. Insert the included 2x AAA batteries into the main unit
  3. Add the sensor to the app – the app will guide you through the pairing process
  4. Attach the main unit to the door or window frame (with adhesive tape or screws)
  5. Attach the counterpart to the door or window, close to the main unit when the door is closed

No electrical work is required for installation – the sensor runs on batteries. Install it in a dry place, preferably on the inside of the door.

What rules can I create with the sensor?

In the Airam Smarthome app, you can create various rules that connect a sensor to other Airam Smarthome devices:

  • Lights turn on when the door is opened — convenient at night when you come home
  • Siren alarms when the door is opened at night — for security
  • Notification to your phone when children return from school
  • Notification if a window remains open for longer than a certain time

Creating rules is done in the app without programming. For the rules, you will need other compatible Airam Smarthome products (smart bulbs, a siren, or similar).

Does the sensor require a separate hub or bridge?

Check Airam's website for the current structure of the Smarthome system. Typically, Airam Smarthome products operate within their own ecosystem, and some systems require a hub for rules to function between different devices.

Installation instructions and system requirements can be found in the Airam Smarthome app. If you are starting to build a smart home, it is advisable to check the compatibility of different devices and the need for a hub before making purchases.

Can the sensor be used on an exterior door?

The sensor is designed for indoor use - the operating temperature is -10 ... +50 °C. Installation directly on outdoor surfaces (exposed to weather) is not recommended, as the sensor is not water or dust proof.

In practice, an outdoor door can be monitored by installing the sensor on the inside of the door – the main unit on the frame on the indoor side and the counterpart on the door from the inside. This works well even with outdoor doors. Avoid installation in saunas or other exceptionally humid areas.
