The Ledvance LS AY-PW02 is a wide U-profile for LED strips. The profile protects the LED strip, provides a neat finish to the installation, and also acts as a heat sink for the LED strip—this extends the strip's lifespan. The profile is suitable for LED strips up to 14 mm wide and is available in 1 m and 2 m lengths.

Installation

The profile is attached to a wall or furniture with mounting clips. The LED strip is adhered inside the profile (LED strips typically have an adhesive backing). The optional cover (clear or frosted) is snapped into place on the top edge of the profile.

Installation checklist

  1. Measure the installation location — determine if a 1 m or 2 m profile is the better length
  2. Ensure the LED strip is no more than 14 mm wide
  3. Attach the mounting clips to the wall or furniture
  4. Snap the profile into the clips
  5. Adhere the LED strip inside the profile
  6. Connect the strip to the LED driver (an electrician will ensure proper connection)
  7. Install any end caps and cover

What LED strips is this profile suitable for?

The profile is suitable for LED strips up to 14 mm wide. This covers most standard 5050, 5630, and 2835 type LED strips, which typically have a width of 8–12 mm.

Please check the width of your LED strip before purchasing—the width is usually mentioned in the strip's technical specifications. If your strip is wider than 14 mm (e.g., RGB+W combination strips), you will need a different profile.

What accessories does the profile need for installation?

The profile is a basic component, in addition to which the following accessories are recommended:

  • Mounting clips — for attaching the profile to a wall or piece of furniture
  • End caps — for finishing the ends of the profile (basic model) or for cabling exiting the end (with hole)
  • Cover — clear maintains light output, frosted evens out light distribution and hides individual LEDs
  • LED strip and a compatible LED driver (power supply)

What is the difference between lengths of 1 m and 2 m?

The models are identical in features — the only difference is the length of the profile. The choice depends on the size of the installation location:

  • 1 m: suitable for shorter installations — kitchen counter lighting, individual shelves, small display cabinets
  • 2 m: suitable for longer installations — furniture, corridors, larger lighting applications

Multiple profiles can also be combined end-to-end when the lighting application is longer. End caps should be used at the joint for a tidy appearance.

Why should an LED strip be installed in an aluminum profile?

Using an aluminum profile offers several benefits when installing LED strips:

  • Heat dissipation: Aluminum draws heat away from the LED strip, significantly extending its lifespan.
  • Protection: The profile protects the strip from dust, contact, and mechanical stress.
  • Clean finish: The profile provides a professional appearance — individual LEDs are not distracting.
  • Light control: The cover (especially a frosted one) evens out light distribution and creates a continuous line of light.

An LED strip glued directly to a wall will get hotter, collect dust, and often look unfinished.
