Ledvance LEDTUBE T5 HF Performance is a premium-level LED tube that is installed directly in place of an existing electronic HF ballast without rewiring. With only 11 W of power, it replaces a traditional 24W T5 fluorescent tube, and the shatter-protected PET coating allows for use in the food industry and demanding environments. The short 549 mm length is suitable for small cabinet luminaires, shelf lighting, and display lighting. Lifetime up to 60,000 hours, color consistency ≤ 5 SDCM, and low flicker (EU 2019/2020).

Compatibility and installation

Direct replacement — simple installation

This HF model is designed for direct replacement of an existing T5 fluorescent tube in luminaires with an electronic HF ballast (EVG / ECG). Installation is:

  1. Turn off power
  2. Remove old T5 fluorescent tube
  3. Install new LED tube in the same holder
  4. Turn on power

No need to rewire or remove the choke, starter, or ballast — everything remains the same.

549 mm length — for small luminaires

This short 549 mm tube is especially suitable for:

  • Cabinet luminaires — under-cabinet lights, shelf lights, task lighting
  • Smaller office and workspace luminaires
  • Display lighting and exhibition spaces
  • Smaller industrial and warehouse luminaires
  • Safes, display cases, and product display luminaires

The length of 549 mm corresponds to the length of a standard 24W T5 fluorescent tube (HO model), so the lamp fits directly into the same luminaire holder.

Replaces 24W T5 fluorescent tube

This 11W LED tube corresponds in lighting efficiency to a traditional 24W T5 fluorescent tube. Energy saving is approximately 54%, and the LED tube's lifetime is up to 60,000 hours — more than double the lifetime of a traditional fluorescent tube (12,000–24,000 h). Shatter protection — food and healthcare use

The glass light tube of this lamp is protected by a special PET coating, which retains glass fragments if the lamp breaks. This makes the lamp suitable for environments where glass breakage could be a health hazard:

Low flicker — for office use

Also suitable for low temperatures

The operating temperature of −20…+45 °C covers all Finnish conditions. The lamp starts at full power immediately even in cold environments, which is important for example in cold storage, outdoor shelters, and industrial halls.

Limited outdoor use

The lamp's protection class is IP20 (indoor use), but outdoor use is possible in moisture-protected luminaires (IP44 or better).

Not suitable for emergency lighting luminaires

This lamp is not certified for emergency lighting use — it does not work with emergency power battery systems.

Can I directly replace an old 24W T5 fluorescent tube with this LED tube?

Yes, and easily at that. This HF model LED tube is designed for direct replacement of an existing 24W T5 fluorescent tube in luminaires with an electronic HF ballast. Installation:

  1. Turn off the power
  2. Remove the old T5 fluorescent tube
  3. Install the new LED tube into the same fixture
  4. Turn on the power

No electrician or rewiring is needed — the choke, starter, and ballast remain as they are. Just check before purchasing that the luminaire has an electronic HF ballast (not a magnetic choke) and that the lamp length of 549 mm fits the luminaire.

What is a T5 HO fluorescent tube and how does it differ from a standard T5?

The T5 HO (High Output) fluorescent tube is a more powerful version of the T5 fluorescent tube, producing more light at a shorter length:

  • Standard T5: e.g., 14W = 549 mm, 21W = 849 mm
  • T5 HO (High Output): e.g., 24W = 549 mm, 39W = 849 mm — same length, but higher power and more lumens

This 11W LED tube replaces a 24W T5 HO fluorescent tube at 549 mm length. If you have previously used a 14W standard T5 fluorescent tube in the same luminaire, this LED tube will produce more light (1,550–1,700 lm vs. ~1,200 lm from a 14W standard T5).

How do I check that the HF ballast is compatible with the LED tube?

HF ballasts are not 100% compatible with all LED tubes. Verification:

  1. Open the luminaire and check the make and model of the ballast (e.g., Helvar EL2x24iCS, Tridonic PC 2x24 T5, Osram QT-FIT8)
  2. Check compatibility on Lumenled's Compatibility Tables page
  3. Or check Ledvance's official list: www.ledvance.com/low-voltage-ledlamps
  4. If the ballast is not on the list, please contact our customer service - we will help with the verification.

The most common compatible ballast brands are: Helvar, Tridonic, Osram, Philips, Vossloh-Schwabe, Ledvance. Older or rarer models may require verification.

What is the lifespan and how does it compare to a fluorescent tube?

The lifespan of this LED tube is up to 60,000 hours, which is significantly longer than traditional T5 fluorescent tubes (12,000–24,000 h).

  • With 8 hours of daily use (office, supermarket): the lamp lasts approximately 20 years
  • With 12 hours of daily use (industry, warehouse): the lamp lasts approximately 13 years
  • With 24 hours of continuous use (hospitals, 24/7 lighting): the lamp lasts approximately 6.8 years

Compared to the 24,000-hour lifespan of a 24W T5 fluorescent tube, this LED tube lasts 2.5 times longer while consuming 54% less energy. In the long run, the total cost of ownership (TCO) is significantly lower.
