This MR16 GU5.3 halogen spotlight produces warm 2700K light with a 36-degree beam angle and is suitable for spotlighting and accent lighting, such as recessed fixtures and track lighting. The bulb operates on 12 volts and requires a suitable transformer. The dichroic reflector directs some of the heat backwards, so the fixture must be suitable for this type of bulb.

Compatibility and installation

The bulb operates on 12-volt voltage and requires a suitable transformer — do not connect it directly to the 230 V mains. If the fixture does not have a built-in transformer, see transformers and control gear.

Installation checklist:

  1. Ensure the fixture has a GU5.3 socket and a suitable 12 V transformer.
  2. Turn off the power and let the old bulb cool down before replacing.
  3. Do not touch the bulb glass with bare fingers; use a cloth or gloves.
  4. Insert the bulb pins into the socket straight without bending them.

Which bulb does this replace?

This is a 20-watt MR16 halogen spotlight with a GU5.3 base (12 V) that replaces a corresponding old MR16 halogen. It provides warm 2700 Kelvin light with a 36-degree beam angle.

Does the lamp need a transformer?

Yes. This is a 12-volt halogen bulb, so the fixture must have a suitable transformer, and it must not be connected directly to the 230 V mains. If the fixture does not have a built-in transformer, see transformers and ballasts.

Is there an LED alternative for this?

Yes. LED spotlights are also available for the same GU5.3 base, which consume less energy and generate less heat. Please check the compatibility of the LED model with your transformer before replacing it.

Can the light bulb glass be touched during installation?

No. Do not touch the glass of the bulb with bare fingers. Skin oils leave a mark on the glass that heats up during use and shortens the lifespan. Handle the bulb with a cloth or gloves.
