The Tungsram Emergency Exit is a self-contained LED emergency light for marking emergency escape routes. The luminaire is powered by mains electricity and automatically switches to the built-in LiFePO4 battery in the event of a power outage. Its IP40 protection class makes it a more affordable option for dry indoor spaces.

Mount on the wall or ceiling. 230 V mains voltage. Electrical connection must be performed by an electrician. For dry indoor spaces only (IP40).

Compatibility and installation

Self-contained emergency light

The luminaire includes its own LiFePO4 battery and does not require a central battery system. The battery charges during normal mains operation, and in the event of a power outage, the luminaire automatically switches to battery power.

IP40 — for dry indoor spaces

IP40 protection guards against contact and the ingress of small objects (over 1 mm) but is not resistant to water or moisture. The luminaire is suitable for dry indoor spaces: offices, corridors, stairwells, schools, hospitals, and shopping centers.

For damp or dusty environments, choose the IP65-rated Emergency Exit model.

Installation

The luminaire is installed on a wall or ceiling and connected to a 230 V mains voltage. The electrical connection must only be carried out by an electrician. Further information can be found in the product's technical brochure.

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

What is the difference between IP40 and IP65 ratings in emergency lights?

The IP rating indicates the device's protection against dust and water. For emergency lights, the two most common levels are:

  • IP40 (this one): protected against touch and objects larger than 1 mm, but not against water. Suitable for dry indoor spaces.
  • IP65: dust-tight and resistant to water jets from any direction. Suitable for damp and dusty environments, as well as covered outdoor areas.

The IP40 model is more affordable and sufficient for most indoor spaces. If the installation location is somewhat damp or dusty, choose the IP65 model.

What is an autonomous safety light?

An autonomous emergency light is an independent luminaire with its own integrated battery. Unlike emergency lights connected to a central battery system, an autonomous luminaire operates independently without separate cabling from a central battery unit.

In practice, the luminaire is connected to a standard 230 V mains supply. Under normal conditions, the battery is continuously charging, and when a power outage occurs, the luminaire automatically switches to battery power and illuminates the escape route for the regulation-compliant duration.

What is a LiFePO4 battery?

LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) is a safe and long-lasting type of lithium battery:

  • Long lifespan: over 2000 charging cycles — multiple times that of standard lithium-ion
  • Safety: does not ignite or explode even under stress
  • Temperature resistance: operates across a wide temperature range

In emergency lights, a LiFePO4 battery means longer maintenance intervals and more reliable operation. The battery does not need to be replaced as often as with traditional emergency lights.

Who is permitted to install emergency lighting?

The emergency light may only be installed and connected by a qualified electrician. The installation is connected to a 230 V mains voltage, and the electrician ensures the correct fuse and residual current protection, as well as performs the commissioning inspection.

Also, ensure that the installation complies with current escape route requirements and fire regulations. For larger sites, it is advisable to consult a fire inspector or electrical designer.
