Compatibility and installation

Autonomous emergency light

This is an autonomous emergency light – it has its own built-in LiFePO4 battery and does not require a separate central battery system. The battery charges continuously during normal mains operation, and in the event of a power outage, the luminaire automatically switches to battery power.

IP65 – for damp and dusty environments

IP65 protection means a dustproof and jet-proof construction. The luminaire is suitable for industrial facilities, parking garages, warehouses, damp and dusty environments, and covered outdoor areas.

Installation

The luminaire is mounted on a wall or ceiling and connected to a 230 V mains voltage. The electrical connection may only be performed by an electrician. Further information and detailed installation instructions can be found in the product brochure: Tungsram Emergency Exit brochure.

Typical applications

  • Emergency exits in industrial and office buildings
  • Parking garages and warehouses
  • Public spaces – shopping centres, restaurants, hospitals
  • Damp and dusty environments (IP65)

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

What is an autonomous safety light?

An autonomous emergency light is a self-contained luminaire with its own built-in battery. Unlike emergency lights connected to a central battery system, an autonomous luminaire operates independently without separate wiring or a central unit.

In practice, the luminaire is connected to a standard 230 V mains power supply. In normal operation, the battery is continuously charging, and when a power outage occurs, the luminaire automatically switches to battery power and illuminates the escape route for the prescribed duration.

What is a LiFePO4 battery and why is it good for emergency lights?

LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) is a type of lithium battery that differs from a standard lithium-ion battery in several important ways:

  • Long lifespan: over 2000 charge cycles — multiple times that of standard lithium-ion
  • Safety: does not ignite or explode even as a result of mechanical stress
  • Temperature resistance: operates across a wide temperature range

In emergency lights, a LiFePO4 battery means longer maintenance intervals and more reliable operation — the battery does not need to be replaced as often as with traditional emergency lights.

What spaces are suitable for an IP65-rated emergency light?

IP65 means a dust-tight and jet-proof construction. This luminaire is suitable for demanding spaces:

  • Industrial facilities and warehouses
  • Parking garages and carports
  • Wet areas (bathrooms, shower rooms, swimming pools)
  • Dusty areas (workshops, factories)
  • Covered outdoor areas — entrances, patios, carports

If the installation location is dry and dust-free (office, corridor), the more affordable Emergency Exit IP40 model with an IP40 rating is sufficient.

Who is allowed to install a safety light?

The emergency light may only be installed and connected by a qualified electrician. The installation is connected to a 230 V mains voltage, and the electrician makes the necessary connections, ensures the correct fuse and residual current protection, and performs the commissioning inspection.

Also, check that the installation meets current emergency exit requirements and fire regulations. For larger sites, it is advisable to consult a fire inspector or electrical designer. Detailed installation instructions can be found in the product brochure.
