The 28W P45 halogen is a good middle-ground option among small globe lamps: 370 lumens corresponds roughly to an old 40W incandescent bulb. It is suitable for wall lamps, small pendant lights, and shades where standard room lighting is required but a standard bulb will not fit. The clear glass leaves the filament visible, and the light reaches full brightness immediately.

Compatibility and installation

The P45 lamp is 45 mm wide and 72 mm long, so it fits most E27 light fixtures and also small shades. The 240V rating indicates the European voltage range, which works normally in Finland's 230V mains.

Do not touch the glass of a halogen bulb with bare fingers – handle the lamp using a clean cloth.

  1. Check that the light fixture has an E27 socket.
  2. Check the maximum wattage marked on the fixture: at least 28 W.
  3. Switch off the power and let the old lamp cool down.
  4. Screw the new lamp into place using a cloth.

Dimmability is not indicated in the product specifications. Similar models in the same size are the Thorgeon P45 18 W and Patron P45 42 W.

Does a 28-watt halogen correspond to a 40-watt incandescent bulb?

Roughly. 370 lumens is slightly less than the approximately 400 lumens of a standard 40-watt incandescent bulb, but in use the difference is small and the light tone is the same warm 2700 K.

A halogen bulb produces light with less power, so consumption drops by about a third compared to an old incandescent bulb.

Which light fixtures is the small P45 globe bulb suitable for?

The P45 is made for fixtures where a standard E27 bulb is too large: wall lamps, small pendant lights, glass globes, and many decorative lamps. The clear model is especially suitable for fixtures where the bulb is visible and the glass is meant to sparkle.

For damp areas, such as a bathroom, the bulb is only suitable if the fixture is approved for such use.

Does a 240-volt bulb work in Finland's 230-volt grid?

It works. 240 V is the standard nominal voltage for European lamps, and the lamp is designed to operate across the entire 220–240 volt voltage range.

On a 230-volt mains, the lamp will produce slightly less light than its nominal value, but its service life will generally be slightly longer as a result. In practice, the difference is unnoticeable.

Which one should I choose: an 18, 28, or 42-watt P45 halogen?

The choice depends on what you expect from the light. The 18 W model (205 lm) is an ambient and night light, this 28 W model (370 lm) is suitable for wall lamps and small shades, and the 42 W model (625 lm) provides the light of an old 60-watt bulb.

All three are the same size, so they fit the same luminaires. Just check the maximum permitted wattage for the luminaire.
