The 42W halogen candle bulb is bright for a candle lamp: its 625 lumens correspond roughly to an old 60W candle bulb. It is suitable for chandeliers and wall sconces that require real light rather than just ambiance. The clear glass leaves the filament visible, making crystals and glass parts sparkle, and the light reaches full brightness immediately.

Compatibility and installation

The dimensions 35 x 97 mm are standard for a candle bulb, so it fits most E14 candle sockets. However, check the wattage marking on your light fixture: many chandeliers and wall sconces have a maximum allowed wattage of 40 W per socket, in which case 42 W is too much. The 240 V rating works normally on the 230 V Finnish power grid.

Do not touch the glass of the halogen bulb with bare fingers – handle the bulb using a clean cloth.

  1. Check that the light fixture has an E14 thread.
  2. Look at the maximum permitted wattage marked on the fixture: it must be at least 42 W.
  3. Turn off the power and let the old bulb cool down.
  4. Screw in the new bulb using a cloth.

If the fixture is marked 40 W or less, choose Thorgeon halogen candle E14 28 W. See also E14 halogen bulbs.

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

Does a 42-watt bulb fit in a chandelier marked 40 W?

Not recommended. The lamp's wattage rating indicates how much heat the socket, wiring, and shade can withstand. 42 W exceeds the 40-watt limit, and in small candelabra sockets, even a slight excess can, over time, damage the socket or cause the shade to yellow.

If the rating is 40 W, choose a 28 W halogen candle lamp. It provides 370 lumens and stays well below the limit.

Is 625 lumens too much for a candle bulb?

That is a lot for a candle bulb, roughly equivalent to an old 60-watt candle bulb. In a single wall lamp, the light is sufficient for reading or lighting a hallway.

In a multi-armed chandelier, the light output quickly adds up: with five bulbs, the chandelier provides over 3000 lumens. If you prefer a softer ambiance or have a dimmer, a lower wattage might be a better choice.

Does a halogen candle work with a dimmer?

Halogen lamps generally work with traditional dimmers, and when dimmed, their light becomes warmer, almost the shade of a candle flame. However, the dimmability of this lamp is not explicitly stated in the product information.

Check the dimmer's power range: the total power of all lamps in the chandelier must not exceed the dimmer's maximum load.

Why is clear glass suitable for a crystal chandelier?

In a clear bulb, the filament acts as a small, point-like light source. When its light refracts through crystals and glass parts, it creates a sparkle that a matte bulb does not produce, as it diffuses the light evenly across the entire surface of the glass.

If the bulbs are at eye level and the glare is bothersome, a matte bulb may be more comfortable.
