Compatibility and installation

T5 tubes are recognized by their thin body and the two thin pins on the G5 base. The 1149 mm measurement is the standard length in the T5 world, which corresponds to a light fixture frame of approximately 1200 mm – the tube itself is always slightly shorter than the fixture.

  1. Measure your old tube from end to end and compare the reading to 1149 millimeters.
  2. Check the base type: in G5, the pins are thin and close together; in G13, they are thicker and further apart.
  3. Ensure that the fixture's ballast is rated for 54 watts.
  4. Turn off the power, twist the old tube to remove it, and insert the new one by rotating it a quarter turn.

What does the light color 76 mean for a fluorescent tube?

Number 76 is a standard color code for fluorescent tubes, signifying light optimized for food retail. Its spectrum emphasizes red tones, which makes meat, fish, and meat products look fresher and more natural in color at the sales counter than under standard general lighting. Color 76 is not suitable for general lighting, as it distorts other hues.

What is a meat fluorescent tube used for?

Typical applications include meat counters, slaughterhouses, meat processing plants, deli counters in shops, and display cases in restaurants. The tube is installed inside the counter's own light fixture, illuminating the products directly from above. General lighting is handled separately with standard light sources.

Does a 1149 mm tube fit in a 1200 mm luminaire?

Yes, this is a normal situation. The 1149 mm marking on T5 tubes is the length of the tube itself, and it is designed for a light fixture housing of approximately 1200 mm. The tube is always slightly shorter than the fixture, as the bases and holders take up space. Just to be safe, measure your old tube from end to end before ordering.

Can a meat fluorescent tube be replaced with an LED tube?

There is an LED equivalent for a general-purpose T5 tube, but the meat light color code 76 is a special spectrum that not all LED tubes have. If you switch to an LED tube, make sure its color rendering is intended for food display, otherwise the appearance of the products will change. We are happy to help you find the right option.
