A matte candle bulb is a good choice for chandeliers, candelabras, and wall lamps where the bulb remains visible. The matte glass diffuses the light evenly, so the filament does not glare or show, and 310 lumens of warm 2700 Kelvin light is sufficient as ambient lighting in an individual fixture. Note the bulb length: 120 mm is about twenty millimeters longer than a standard candle bulb.

Compatibility and installation

E14 is a small screw base used in chandeliers, candelabras, and wall lamps. The 35 mm diameter is the standard size for a candle bulb, but it is worth measuring the 120 mm length in advance: in a small lampshade, the tip of the bulb may protrude over the edge of the shade. The 240 V rating works normally in the 230 V Finnish power grid.

An incandescent bulb gets hot during use. Turn off the power and let the old bulb cool down before replacing it.

  1. Check that the light fixture has an E14 socket.
  2. Measure the height between the base and the edge of the lampshade: the bulb requires 120 mm.
  3. Check the maximum permitted wattage marked on the fixture: at least 40 W.
  4. Turn off the power and gently screw in the new bulb.

Dimmability is not indicated in the product information. You can find a clear alternative in the product Patron candle bulb E14 25 W, and energy-saving models in the E14 LED bulbs category.

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

Is a 120 mm long candle bulb too long for my light fixture?

It depends on the light fixture. A standard 35 mm candle bulb is about 100 mm long, so this model is a couple of dozen millimeters longer. In chandeliers and candelabras where the bulb is openly displayed, the length is often even an advantage, as the bulb looks more candle-like.

Under a small fabric shade, however, the tip of the bulb may rise above the edge of the shade. Measure the distance between the socket and the top edge of the shade before ordering.

Matte or clear candle bulb – which one is better for a chandelier?

Frosted glass provides a soft and even light that does not glare, even if you look directly at the bulb. It is suitable for chandeliers and wall lamps where the bulbs are at eye level.

Clear glass, on the other hand, makes crystals and glass parts sparkle because the filament acts as a point light source. If you want sparkle, take a look at the clear E14 candle bulb.

How much light does a 40-watt candle bulb give?

310 lumens is the level of ambient light for a single bulb: it is sufficient for a wall light or a table lamp, but will not light up a room on its own.

In a multi-arm chandelier, however, the light adds up. A five-bulb chandelier provides about 1500 lumens, which is well enough for general lighting in a living room or dining area.

Is there an LED equivalent for this bulb?

Yes. E14 base LED candle bulbs are also available in a matte finish, and they provide the same amount of light for a fraction of the energy. An LED bulb also heats up less, which is an advantage in small lampshades.

If the light fixture has a dimmer, choose an LED model marked as dimmable and also check the length. You can find the options in the category E14 LED bulbs.
