Candelabra and crystal chandelier sockets are not always E14 – many older and imported light fixtures use a B15d small bayonet base, which is not compatible with a standard screw-base candle bulb. This clear 40-watt candle bulb is a direct replacement for such fixtures, and its warm 2700 Kelvin light maintains the original ambiance.

Compatibility and installation

B15d is a 15 mm bayonet base: the bulb is pushed into place and turned a quarter turn. It is clearly smaller than the E14 screw base, and the two are not interchangeable.

Incandescent bulbs get hot during use. Switch off the power and allow the bulb to cool before replacing it.

  1. Check your old bulb to see if the base has two pins (B15d) or threads (E14).
  2. Measure the clearance in the shade or chandelier: the bulb is 35 mm wide and 100 mm long.
  3. Check the maximum wattage indicated on the fixture.
  4. Switch off the power, push the new bulb into place, and turn it a quarter turn.

Brightness is not indicated in lumens in the product specifications, so we do not guarantee an exact light output. For reference, a 40-watt clear candle bulb is an accent light, not general lighting. Electrical work should be performed by a qualified electrician.

What is a B15d base and what is it used for?

B15d is a 15-millimeter bayonet base where the bulb is pushed into place and locked with a quarter turn. It is used especially in small bulbs for candelabras, crystal chandeliers, sewing machines, and many imported light fixtures. In Finland, it is less common than the E14, which often makes finding replacement bulbs difficult.

What is the difference between a B15d and an E14 candle bulb?

The mounting method is different. B15d is pushed in and twisted into a lock using two side pins, while E14 is screwed into threads. The bulbs are not compatible with each other's fixtures without a separate adapter. The bulb body and dimensions may be the same, so the base is most reliably identified by looking at the old bulb or the lamp holder.

Does a 240-volt bulb work in the Finnish electricity network?

Yes. The mains voltage in Finland is nominally 230 V, and lamps marked for 240 volts are rated for the same European voltage range. They will function normally on a 230-volt network. The only things to note are significantly lower voltages, such as 110 V or 12 V, which require their own transformer or device.

Can this be replaced with an LED candle bulb?

There are clearly fewer B15d-base LED candle bulbs on the market than E14-base ones, so a direct equivalent is not always available. If you want to switch to LED, it is worth checking if the lamp socket can be changed or an adapter can be used. Ask us, and we will look together at which option is right for your specific light fixture.
