In a multi-armed chandelier, an individual bulb does not need to be bright – when there are six or eight light points, they together provide sufficient light. This 28-watt B15d candle bulb produces 370 lumens, which is a suitable amount for exactly that use. The clear B35 bulb body leaves the filament visible and adds sparkle to crystal.

Compatibility and installation

The B15d bulb is pushed into the socket and turned a quarter turn. It does not fit an E14 screw base without an adapter. The dimensions of 35 x 97 mm are the standard size for a candle bulb, so the bulb will also fit into tight shades.

The bulb becomes hot during use. Turn off the power and allow the old bulb to cool before replacing it. Preferably handle the glass with a clean cloth.

  1. Check that the luminaire base has two side pins, not threads.
  2. Measure the available height in the shade: the bulb is 97 mm long.
  3. Check the maximum allowed wattage marked on the luminaire.
  4. Turn off the power, push the new bulb into place, and turn a quarter turn.

Dimmability is not indicated in the product information, so verify the compatibility of your dimmer before use.

What is the difference between a 28-watt and a 42-watt B15d candle bulb?

The difference lies in brightness and power consumption. This 28-watt model provides 370 lumens, while the 42-watt version reaches 625 lumens. The base, shape, and dimensions are the same for both, so you can choose the wattage freely within the limits allowed by the light fixture. For a multi-branched chandelier, the dimmer model is often better, while for a single wall light, the brighter one is preferred.

Is 370 lumens enough for general lighting?

Not as a single bulb. 370 lumens is roughly equivalent to an old 40-watt candle bulb, meaning it falls into the category of mood lighting. In a multi-armed chandelier, the combined light of six bulbs is over 2000 lumens, which is enough for general room lighting. As a single bulb, it is best suited for a wall lamp or candelabra.

Does the bulb fit in a narrow lampshade?

The dimensions 35 x 97 mm are the standard size for a candle bulb, so the lamp fits into most lampshades and chandelier arms. However, you should still check that there is at least 97 millimetres of clearance under the lampshade and that the bulbs do not touch each other or the body of the chandelier. It is not advisable to install an incandescent bulb in a closed lampshade, as the heat needs a way to escape.

Why are 2700 Kelvin bulbs generally used for candle lamps?

2700 K is a warm white, which corresponds to the tone of a traditional incandescent bulb. Candle bulbs are most often used in chandeliers, candelabras, and decorative lamps where a specifically warm and atmospheric effect is desired. Cooler tones, such as 4000 K, would easily look stark in such a fixture.
