The 100-watt incandescent bulb was once the brightest standard lamp in the home, and in many applications, it remains the right choice – for example, in appliances, machinery, and antique light fixtures where the light source cannot be replaced with another technology. Compatibility and installation

The dimensions of 60 x 105 mm are the standard size for an incandescent bulb, so the bulb fits physically into the same space as a regular E27 bulb. The decisive limitation is power: 100 watts generates significantly more heat than a 40 or 60-watt bulb.

An incandescent bulb gets hot during use. Switch off the power and let the old bulb cool down before replacing it.

  1. Check the maximum permitted wattage marked on the light fixture before installation.
  2. Ensure that the glass cover or lampshade is not completely airtight – the heat needs a way to escape.
  3. Switch off the power and let the old bulb cool down.
  4. Screw the new bulb in place gently.

Does the light fixture support a 100-watt bulb?

Not automatically. Luminaires are marked with their maximum permitted wattage, often 40 or 60 watts, and this marking is usually found near the socket or on the inner surface of the shade. Exceeding this limit causes the luminaire to overheat and can damage the wiring, socket, or shade. Check the marking before installing a 100-watt bulb.

How bright are 1340 lumens?

That is about double the amount compared to a standard 60-watt incandescent bulb and is enough for general lighting in a medium-sized room. Because the glass is clear and the filament is visible, the bulb causes glare when looked at directly – it should be placed inside a lampshade or high enough.

How much does a 100-watt bulb consume compared to an LED bulb?

A modern LED produces the same 1340 lumens of light with about 9 to 12 watts of power, meaning the consumption is about one-tenth. A 100-watt bulb burning for four hours a day consumes about 146 kilowatt-hours per year, while an LED consumes about 15. An incandescent bulb is still a justified choice when the application specifically requires one, for example in a device or a special lamp.

Why does a light bulb instantly reach full brightness?

In an incandescent bulb, light is produced directly by a heating metal filament, and the filament reaches its operating temperature practically immediately. Therefore, the bulb has no warm-up delay whatsoever. This same feature makes it a good choice for applications where the light is turned on and off frequently and for short periods.
