The lamp operates on 12 volts and requires a suitable transformer to function. More energy-efficient LED alternatives are also available for the same base.

Compatibility and installation

The lamp operates on 12-volt voltage and requires a suitable transformer — do not connect it directly to 230 V mains. If the luminaire does not have an integrated transformer, see transformers and ballasts.

Installation checklist:

  1. Ensure the luminaire has a GY6.35 socket and a suitable 12 V transformer.
  2. Switch off the power and allow the old lamp to cool before replacement.
  3. Do not touch the lamp glass with bare fingers — use a cloth or gloves.
  4. Insert the lamp pins straight into the socket without bending them.

Which bulb does this replace?

This is a 20-watt GY6.35 halogen lamp (12 V) that replaces a corresponding old GY6.35 halogen. It provides 375 lumens of warm 2800 Kelvin light and is suitable for small low-voltage luminaires.

Does the lamp need a transformer?

Yes. This is a 12-volt halogen bulb, so the luminaire must have a suitable transformer, and it must not be connected directly to the 230 V mains. If the luminaire does not have a transformer already, please see our transformers and control gear.

Is there an LED alternative for this?

Yes. LED bulbs are also available for the same GY6.35 base, which consume less energy and last longer. Check the compatibility of the LED model with your transformer before replacing.

Can the glass of the bulb be touched during installation?

No. Do not touch the lamp glass with bare fingers. Skin oils leave a residue on the glass that heats up during use and shortens the service life. Handle the lamp with a cloth or gloves.
