The Ledvance LEDTUBE T5 HF Performance is a premium-level LED tube that is installed directly in place of an existing electronic HF ballast without the need for rewiring. Just 18W of power replaces a traditional 39W T5 fluorescent tube, and the shatter-protected PET coating allows for use in the food industry and other demanding spaces. A service life of up to 60,000 hours, color consistency of ≤ 5 SDCM, and low flicker (EU 2019/2020) make this an excellent choice for offices, supermarkets, and industrial spaces.

Compatibility and installation

Direct replacement — simple installation

This HF model is designed for direct replacement of an existing T5 fluorescent tube in fixtures equipped with an electronic HF ballast (EVG / ECG). Installation is:

  1. Switch off the power
  2. Remove the old T5 fluorescent tube
  3. Install the new LED tube in the same holder
  4. Switch on the power

There is no need to rewire or remove the choke, starter, or ballast — everything remains as is.

Check ballast compatibility

Although this lamp is designed for the most common HF ballasts, not all models are 100% compatible. Check compatibility via:

The most common compatible ballast brands are: Helvar, Tridonic, Osram, Philips, Vossloh-Schwabe, Ledvance. If the ballast is a rarer brand or an older model, please contact our customer service before ordering.

AC vs HF — when to choose which?

  • HF model (this one): suitable when you want a fast and affordable replacement in an existing HF fixture without wiring changes. Suitable for replacing individual lamps as they burn out.

Replaces 39W T5 fluorescent tube

This 18W LED tube matches the lighting efficiency of a traditional 39W T5 fluorescent tube. Energy savings are approximately 54%, and the LED tube's service life is up to 60,000 hours — more than double that of a traditional fluorescent tube (12,000–24,000 h). The 849 mm length matches the standard 39W T5 fluorescent tube length.

Shatter protection — food and healthcare use

This lamp's glass light tube is protected with a special PET coating that keeps glass fragments contained if the lamp breaks. This makes the lamp suitable for spaces where glass breakage could pose a health threat:

Low flicker — for office use

The lamp meets the flicker requirements of the EU 2019/2020 directive: SVM ≤ 0.4 (stroboscopic effect) and PstLM ≤ 1 (short-term flicker). This means the lamp is suitable for long-term use in offices, supermarkets, schools, or hospitals without causing eye strain or headaches.

Accurate color consistency — ≤ 5 SDCM

Color consistency (SDCM, Standard Deviation of Color Matching) is ≤ 5, which is premium-level. When multiple lamps are installed side-by-side (e.g., in office ceiling or supermarket lighting), their color tone is very consistent — no visible differences between different lamps.

Also suitable for low temperatures

The operating temperature of −20…+45 °C covers all Finnish conditions. The lamp lights up at full power immediately even in cold spaces, which is important for e.g., cold storage, outdoor canopies, and industrial halls.

Limited outdoor use

The lamp's protection class is IP20 (indoor use), but outdoor use is possible in moisture-proof fixtures (IP44 or better).

Not suitable for emergency lighting fixtures

Installation checklist

  1. Check that the fixture has a T5 G5 base (pins spaced 5 mm apart)

Can I replace an old T5 fluorescent tube directly with this LED tube?

Yes, and easily at that. This HF model LED tube is designed for direct replacement of an existing T5 fluorescent tube in luminaires with an electronic HF ballast. Installation:

  1. Turn off the power
  2. Remove the old T5 fluorescent tube
  3. Install the new LED tube into the same holder
  4. Turn on the power

No electrician or rewiring is needed — the choke, starter, and ballast remain unchanged. Just check before purchasing that the luminaire has an electronic HF ballast (not a magnetic choke).

What is the difference between HF and AC model LED tubes?

How do I check that the HF ballast is compatible with the LED tube?

Not all HF ballasts are 100% compatible with LED tubes. To check:

  1. Open the luminaire and check the make and model of the ballast (e.g., Helvar EL2x35iCS, Tridonic PC 2x35 T5, Osram QT-FIT8)
  2. Check compatibility on Lumenled's Compatibility Tables page
  3. Or check Ledvance's official list: www.ledvance.com/low-voltage-ledlamps
  4. If the ballast is not on the list, please contact our customer service – we will help you with the check

What is the lifespan and how does it compare to a fluorescent lamp?

This LED tube has a lifespan of up to 60,000 hours, which is significantly longer than traditional T5 fluorescent tubes (12,000–24,000 h).

  • With 8 hours of daily use (office, supermarket): the lamp lasts approximately 20 years
  • With 12 hours of daily use (industry, warehouse): the lamp lasts approximately 13 years
  • With 24 hours of continuous use (hospitals, round-the-clock lighting): the lamp lasts approximately 6.8 years
