The Ledvance LED PAR16 Performance is a high-quality LED spotlight bulb with a GU10 base. With 3.7 W of power, the bulb produces 350 lm of warm 2700 K light — equivalent to a traditional 50 W GU10 halogen. The 36° beam angle is suitable for targeted lighting (shops, artwork). Dimmable and compatible with most phase-cut dimmers.

Compatibility and installation

GU10 — 230V direct mains base

GU10 is a direct 230 V base — no transformer required. It is the standard base in modern spotlights designed to replace incandescent and halogen bulbs. The bulb is installed with a twist-lock mechanism: push the bulb into place and turn approximately 1/8 of a turn to lock.

Replaces 50W halogen — energy savings

A 3.7 W LED produces the same light output (350 lm) as a 50 W GU10 halogen. Energy savings are approximately 92%, which means:

  • Operating costs drop to a fraction
  • Bulb lifespan increases 8–12 times (25,000+ h vs. 2,000 h for halogen)
  • Less heat — safer for furniture lighting

36° beam angle — targeted lighting

The narrow beam angle is particularly suitable for accent lighting of artwork, retail products, and interior details. The light is focused on a precise target, creating a dramatic effect.

Does this LED directly replace a 50W GU10 halogen?

Yes. A 3.7 W LED produces the same light output (350 lm) as a roughly 50 W GU10 halogen. The dimensions and base are the same (GU10, Ø 50 × 54 mm), so the bulb fits directly into the old fixture.

Installation is simple:

  1. Switch off the power to the fixture
  2. Let the old halogen cool down
  3. Turn the old bulb 1/8 of a turn and pull it out
  4. Insert the LED and turn to lock

Check for compatibility with the dimmer if you are using one.

What is the difference between PAR16 and MR16 lamps?

Both PAR16 and MR16 are 50 mm in diameter, but:

  • PAR16 GU10 (this one): 230 V direct mains voltage. PAR = Parabolic Aluminized Reflector, base GU10 (twist-and-lock).
  • MR16 GU5.3: 12 V low voltage, requires a transformer. MR = Multifaceted Reflector, base GU5.3 (two small pins).

The lamps are NOT interchangeable — different voltage and different base.

Is this LED compatible with a dimmer?

Yes — this is a dimmable LED. Suitable for most phase-cut dimmers.

Check compatibility on the Ledvance list: www.ledvance.com/dim. Old halogen dimmers may cause flickering with LED lamps — replace with an LED-compatible model if necessary.

What is the lifespan of a PAR16 bulb?

The service life of the Ledvance LED PAR16 Performance lamp is typically 15,000–25,000 hours. Compared to a traditional GU10 halogen (2,000 h), this is an 8–12 times longer service life.

In practice, this means:

  • Normal home use (4 h/day): approx. 10–17 years
  • Retail use (10 h/day): approx. 4–7 years

Replacement labor costs remain minimal — especially with high ceilings, the long service life of the LED is an important advantage.
