The Ledvance HQL LED FIL Value is a direct LED replacement lamp for old high-pressure mercury vapor lamps (HQL). With 60 W of power and 9000 lumens of evenly distributed natural white 4000K light with a 360° beam angle — the same lighting pattern as a traditional mercury vapor lamp, but with up to 78% less energy consumption. Designed specifically for outdoor lighting, street lighting, and industrial lighting.
Works with both a mercury vapor lamp ballast and directly with 230V mains voltage. IP65-rated for outdoor use. Not dimmable.
✓ Easy mercury lamp replacement — dual compatible
This Ledvance HQL LED FIL Value is designed as a direct replacement lamp for 80–125W mercury vapor lamps. The lamp works both with the old ballast (just replace the lamp) and directly with 230V mains voltage (after bypassing the ballast). Savings of up to 78% energy, with a significantly longer lifespan.

Compatibility, installation, and safety
Two installation methods
The HQL LED FIL Value works with both installation types:
- Retrofit with mercury lamp ballast: just replace the old mercury lamp with the new LED version. The ballast can remain in place.
- Direct 230V mains voltage: after bypassing the ballast, the lamp works directly with mains voltage — the best long-term solution for energy efficiency.
Important: compensating capacitor must be removed
If the old luminaire has a compensating capacitor (common in mercury lamp luminaires), it must be removed before installing the LED lamp. If the capacitor is not removed, the power factor of the installation will deteriorate. This is electrical work that must be carried out by an electrician.
Usage restrictions
- Not for enclosed indoor luminaires: the 60W model must not be used in enclosed indoor luminaires due to heat generation
- Maximum ambient temperature 50°C: not suitable for very hot environments
- Not with ignitor devices: must not be installed with fluorescent lamp ballasts
- Not for tight luminaires: use in tight luminaires is not recommended
- Burning position: in horizontal burning position, the lamp's Tc point is above the lamp
IP65 — suitable for outdoor use
The lamp is IP65-rated (dust and water jet proof), making it suitable for outdoor lighting. However, only use the lamp in luminaires whose own IP rating is suitable for outdoor use.
A professional performs electrical work
All electrical connections — ballast bypass, removal of compensating capacitor, luminaire modifications — must be carried out by an electrician. In Finland, electrical work may only be performed by a person with appropriate qualifications.
Installation checklist
- Check that the old lamp is an E27 base 80–125W mercury lamp
- Check that the luminaire's IP rating is suitable for the intended use (for outdoor use, IP44 or better)
- Check that the luminaire is not an enclosed indoor luminaire (60W restriction)
- Remove the old lamp and install the HQL LED — you can initially test with the ballast
- For a long-term solution: ask an electrician to bypass the ballast and remove the compensating capacitor
