This is a low-voltage 24 V incandescent bulb, suitable for special systems — such as 24 V auxiliary lighting systems in ships, trucks, industrial settings, and to some extent, households. The classic E27 base and GLS A60 shape (a standard pear-shaped bulb) make installation easy. With a power of 25 W, the bulb produces 260 lm of warm incandescent light.

24 V low voltage — NOT suitable for 230 V mains voltage. E27 base. Incandescent bulb — short lifespan; LED is more energy-efficient.

Compatibility and usage

FOR 24 V SYSTEMS ONLY

This bulb works only with 24 V voltage. 230 V mains voltage would damage the bulb immediately (it will burn out instantly). Typical 24 V systems:

  • Ships and boats: 24 V systems in larger vessels
  • Trucks and heavy machinery: 24 V electricity in most heavy-duty vehicles
  • Industry: auxiliary lighting and indicator light systems
  • Solar energy systems: some 24 V battery-based solutions

Check your system's voltage before purchasing — the wrong voltage will damage the bulb.

Incandescent bulb vs LED in a 24 V system

Although the incandescent bulb is an outdated technology, it still has some advantages:

  • Compatibility: works without issues with older systems, no flickering or electronics problems
  • Simplicity: no electronics that could be damaged by vibrations or damp conditions
  • Heat: in some applications, the bulb's heat is a useful byproduct

In terms of energy savings and lifespan, LED is clearly better. If your system allows for an LED alternative, consider switching — the savings in battery life can be significant.

Pear-shaped GLS A60

GLS = General Lighting Service, A60 refers to the shape (A = Arbitrary/pear-shaped) and the diameter (60 mm). This is the most common bulb shape, fitting most fixtures without special requirements.

Lifespan — typical for an incandescent bulb

The lifespan of an incandescent bulb is typically 1,000 hours. In special applications where the bulb is used infrequently and for short durations at a time, the actual lifespan may be several years. We recommend keeping a spare bulb on hand, especially on ships and in recreational vehicles, where purchasing one during a trip may be difficult.

Installation checklist

  1. Switch off the power to the system
  2. Allow the old bulb to cool down
  3. Verify that the system voltage is 24 V (not 12 V or 230 V)
  4. Unscrew the old bulb from the E27 socket
  5. Install the new bulb — turn clockwise
  6. Switch on the power and test
Power: 25W

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

Can a 24V light bulb be used in a 12V system?

Not directly. If you use a 24 V bulb in a 12 V system:

  • The bulb will be very dim: you will get only a quarter of the power (equivalent to approx. 6 W)
  • The light will be significantly faded: the color temperature will shift towards orange, with a light output of less than 10% of the nominal value
  • The bulb will not be damaged: but its usability will be poor

If you have a 12 V system, use a 12 V light bulb. The bulb's nominal voltage (24 V) is designed to produce the correct luminous flux only at a full 24 V voltage.

What is the difference between GLS A60 and other bulb shapes?

GLS A60 is the most common bulb shape for general lighting:

  • A60 (this one): pear-shaped, 60 mm diameter — standard general-purpose bulb
  • A55: same shape, 55 mm diameter — for smaller light fixtures
  • G45: small globe — decorative lights, chandeliers
  • B35/C35: candle bulb — decorative light fixtures, traditional chandeliers
  • R63/R80: reflector shape — spotlights
  • P45/P60: mushroom/globe shape — ambient lighting

The A60 fits almost any light fixture with an E27 base. Just check before purchasing that the fixture allows for the bulb length (108 mm for this model).

Can I replace this with an LED bulb?

Yes, if you have a 24 V system and can find a compatible 24 V LED bulb. Take a look at our selection:

Benefits of switching to LED:

  • Energy savings: 25 W → 6 W = 76% lower consumption
  • Longer lifespan: 1,000 h → 25,000+ h
  • Increased battery life: particularly significant for marine and recreational vehicle use

LED is almost always the better choice if the system allows for it.

Does this bulb fit a standard Edison socket fixture?

The E27 base size is the same as in a standard Edison bulb, so the bulb physically fits into any E27-socket light fixture. BUT:

Voltage is decisive:

  • Standard 230 V household light fixture: DO NOT use — the bulb would burn out immediately
  • 24 V system E27 fixture: fits well

Never use a 24 V bulb in a 230 V mains voltage. The compatibility of the E27 base is not enough — the voltage must also be correct.
