A halogen lamp is a relative of the incandescent bulb: it provides the same warm light that turns on instantly at full brightness, but with slightly lower consumption. This clear E27 model from Thorgeon is suitable for fixtures where you want the character of traditional light and where the bulb remains visible – the filament is visible through the clear glass and produces sparkle, for example in a crystal shade.

Compatibility and installation

The dimensions of 55 x 98 mm are slightly smaller than a standard bulb, so the lamp also fits into tight shades. The 240 V marking refers to the European voltage range, which works normally in Finland's 230 V network.

Do not touch the glass of the halogen lamp with bare fingers. Skin oils heat up unevenly on the glass and shorten the service life – use a clean cloth.

  1. Check that the light fixture has an E27 socket.
  2. Check the maximum permitted wattage marked on the fixture.
  3. Turn off the power and let the old bulb cool down.
  4. Screw in the new bulb using a cloth.

Dimmability is not specified in the product information, so verify the dimmer's suitability before use. You can find alternatives in the E27 LED lamps category.

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

What is the difference between a halogen lamp and a standard incandescent bulb?

In both, light is generated by a heating filament, but inside a halogen lamp there is halogen gas that returns evaporated material back to the filament. That is why a halogen usually lasts longer and produces slightly more light with the same power. The character and warm tone of the light are practically the same, as is the instant ignition to full brightness.

Why is the power 52 watts instead of a round 60?

52 watts is the typical wattage for an energy-efficient halogen bulb: it is designed to provide approximately the same amount of light as an old 60-watt incandescent bulb, but with lower consumption. The 815 lumens of this bulb correspond very closely to the light of a traditional 60-watt bulb. Therefore, comparisons should be made in lumens, not watts.

Is the lamp dimmable?

Halogen lamps are generally dimmable with a standard dimmer by design, but dimmability is not specifically stated in this product's information, so we do not guarantee it. Please verify the compatibility of your dimmer and light fixture before use. Connection work must be performed by a qualified electrician.

Is it worth replacing a halogen lamp with an LED bulb?

If a lamp is on for many hours, it is worth it. An LED lamp produces the same 815 lumens of light at about 6 or 7 watts, meaning consumption drops by over 85 percent, and the service life is many times longer. However, a halogen is still a good choice when you want that specific quality of light, a bright visible filament, or reliability when working with a dimmer.
