This GY6.35-base LED bulb is a multi-voltage special model that operates across a wide 10–30 V voltage range. It is particularly suitable for lighting in vessels (12 V or 24 V), caravans, cabins, solar-powered systems, and industrial 24 V systems. With a power of 3 W, the bulb produces 350 lm of warm 3000 K light. The compact 19 × 35 mm size allows the bulb to fit into even small luminaires.

Compatibility and installation

Multi-voltage model — suitable for many systems

This LED bulb works within a wide 10–30 V voltage range, which means the same bulb is suitable for:

  • 12 V systems: caravans, boats, cabin battery systems, solar cells
  • 24 V systems: trucks, industry, larger solar systems
  • AC and DC: works with both alternating current and direct current

This differs from standard 12 V LED bulbs, which only work in 12 V systems. The multi-voltage range is useful when the same bulb is to be used in different locations or if the system voltage may vary during use.

GY6.35 — two-pin base size

GY6.35 is a two-pin base with a distance of 6.35 mm between the pins. A common base for low-voltage bulbs — for example in oven lighting, spotlights, and special applications. Easily confused with the G4 base (4 mm) — check the base size of your luminaire before purchasing.

Installation checklist

What is GY6.35 and does it differ from the G4 base?

GY6.35 and G4 are both bi-pin bases, but the distance between the pins is different:

  • G4: pin spacing 4 mm — common in narrow 12 V bulbs
  • GY6.35 (this one): pin spacing 6.35 mm — common in wider 12–24 V bulbs

The bulbs are NOT interchangeable — a G4 bulb will not fit into a GY6.35 base, and vice versa. Check your fixture's base carefully before purchasing. If you are unsure, remove the old bulb and measure the distance between the pins.

Can this bulb be used in a standard 230 V light fixture?

No. This bulb only operates within a voltage range of 10–30 V. A 230 V mains voltage would damage the bulb immediately.

For these types of bulbs, you need:

  • Low-voltage fixture: designed for 12 V or 24 V systems
  • OR a transformer: a 230 V to 12 V or 24 V transformer that converts the mains voltage to a suitable level

If you want to use an LED bulb directly with 230 V mains power, choose a 230 V LED bulb (E27, E14, GU10, or similar). A GY6.35 bulb is always a low-voltage bulb.

Is it compatible with a 12 V AC transformer?

Yes — this lamp works with both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). This is a clear advantage of the multi-voltage model:

  • AC 12 V: standard halogen transformers (electromagnetic or electronic) — works without issues
  • DC 12 V: battery systems (caravans, boats, cabins) — works directly from the battery
  • DC 24 V: trucks, larger battery systems — the same lamp

Most standard LED lamps only support DC power, in which case an electronic transformer may not always work optimally. This multi-voltage model solves compatibility issues.

Is it suitable for vessels and marine use?

The lamp is well-suited for interior lighting on vessels when using a 12 V or 24 V battery system — both are within this lamp's voltage range (10–30 V).

Things to note for marine use:

  • Protection class: this lamp is not specifically IP-rated. Suitable for dry interior spaces, not for areas directly exposed to moisture or splashing water
  • The fixture is key: a marine-grade IP-rated fixture around the lamp provides protection against moisture and salt
  • Vibration resistance: LEDs withstand vibration better than incandescent bulbs — an advantage in marine use

When battery-powered, an LED is significantly more energy-efficient than a halogen — longer battery life for the same amount of light.
