This is a heat-resistant 12V halogen oven lamp, suitable for oven lights and other high-temperature applications. The lamp can withstand temperatures up to 300 °C, ensuring reliable operation even inside the oven during cooking. The GY6.35 base and compact dimensions (Ø 11 × 33 mm) fit most oven light sockets.

12V halogen — requires a 12V transformer. For oven light use only. A short lifespan of 1000 hours is typical for oven lamps — be prepared for replacements.

Compatibility and installation

Specifically designed for oven lighting

Regular halogen lamps melt or get damaged at oven temperatures. Oven lamps use special constructions and materials that withstand continuous temperatures of 300 °C. Do not replace an oven lamp with a regular 12V halogen — always use a heat-resistant oven lamp.

12V halogen — transformer required

This lamp operates at 12V. Oven lights usually contain their own transformer, which is integrated into the oven's electrical lighting system — an electrician can check the transformer's condition if necessary.

GY6.35 base — the most common oven lamp base

GY6.35 is the standard base for most oven lights. Check your oven's instruction manual for the required base and wattage before purchasing — some ovens use E14 or G9 based oven lamps.

Lifespan of 1000 hours — typical for halogen

The lifespan of halogen lamps is significantly shorter than that of LED lamps — 1000 hours corresponds to approximately 1–2 years of use in normal home use. Be prepared to buy a new lamp when the light stops working. Unfortunately, there is currently a limited selection of heat-resistant LED alternatives for inside ovens.

Installation checklist

  1. Check the oven's instruction manual for lamp base and wattage requirements
  2. Allow the oven to cool completely before changing the lamp
  3. Disconnect the oven from the mains power (for safety reasons)
  4. Remove the oven light's protective glass (usually twisted)
  5. Remove the old lamp and install the new one
  6. Reattach the cover securely
  7. Reconnect the oven to the mains power and test the light
Power: 50W

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

Can an oven light be replaced with a regular 12V halogen bulb?

No. Standard halogen bulbs are designed for an operating temperature of approximately 100–150 °C and will melt or be damaged at oven temperatures (up to over 250 °C).

Oven bulbs are built with special heat-resistant materials and can withstand a continuous temperature of 300 °C. Using a standard bulb in an oven can cause the bulb to break, melt, and even pose a fire hazard. Always use a dedicated oven bulb.

Is there an LED alternative for an oven light bulb?

LED oven bulbs are available to a limited extent, but most cannot withstand a continuous temperature of 300 °C like halogens. LED technology suffers in high temperatures — the electronics are damaged and the lifespan is dramatically shortened.

Halogen oven bulbs remain the standard solution for oven lighting for now. Although their lifespan is shorter than LEDs (1000 h vs 25,000+ h), an oven bulb only lights up during use — the actual number of operating hours in home use remains low, so a halogen typically lasts 1–2 years.

What is a GY6.35 base and how does it differ from other oven lamp bases?

GY6.35 is a standard base with two pins 6.35 mm apart. It is the most common oven lamp base. Other common bases for oven lights:

  • E14: standard screw base — a smaller version of E27
  • G9: two-pin base with 9 mm spacing
  • GU10: rarer in ovens, typically found in general lighting fixtures

Check your oven's user manual for the exact base before purchasing. If the manual is lost, carefully remove the old bulb (after the oven has cooled down) and take it to the store for comparison.

Why is the lifespan of an oven light so short compared to regular light bulbs?

Halogen lamps typically have a lifespan of 1000–2000 hours, whereas LED lamps boast 15,000–50,000 hours. Oven lamps have additional limitations:

  • High temperature: Constant heat of 300 °C stresses the filament structure
  • Sudden heating: Rapid temperature changes (oven on/off) stress the filament
  • Limitations of halogen technology: Incandescent filament technology has a shorter lifespan

In practice, an oven lamp lasts 1–2 years in home use. It is recommended to keep a spare lamp at home so that replacement can be done immediately when the light stops working.
